Meet your
Reiki Master

Welcome beautiful souls!

I am so pleased you have chosen to embark on your Reiki initiation with us. It's an amazing journey that many students describe as a lifechanging experience.

I'm Tracey Fusco - holistic practitioner, sound therapist , Reiki master, teacher, and founder of Essentia Holistic Health .

I am extremely passionate about natural healing modalities, which I utilise in both my professional and personal life.

Tracey%20Fusco%20Reiki%20Master_edited.j

I've always been drawn such therapies- as a child I would massage my Nana’s feet on a Saturday night, while watching Lovejoy on her oversized retro TV. I remember concentrating on sending her loving energy while I worked.

I loved those special nights with my Nana- just me and her (and Lovejoy) listening to my Grandad’s gentle snores in the distance. Such fond memories!

As a young teen I was drawn specifically to energy work- but at the time I had no idea what it was.

I often experimented with this idea asking my friends to lay their hands on me and send me some loving energy if I was feelin under the weather - and vice versa. I didn’t understand it, I didn't know what it was, I just knew it felt good! I called it ...

I was a young adult when I discovered Reiki Healing at local charity event. I remember feeling a little unsure - sitting on a high backed chair surrounded by churchy smells and mahogany furniture galore. The lady asked me to close my eyes and relax as she began to deliver my first ever Reiki treatment.

Wow I certainly felt the love that day!

The experience was simply surreal- the world dissolved around me, tears began to roll down my cheeks, and my consciousness journeyed to a realm it had not yet discovered.  I was hooked!

And so, many years later, here I am blessed to be able to pass the gift of these ancient teachings and Universal healing power to you .

UNIVERSAL LIFEFORCE
ENERGY

Lifeforce is the energy that flows through all things - Minerals, plants and animals, as well as humans. Translated Reiki means:

Rei          ki

 Universal

  Lifeforce Energy

A WORLD OF ENERGY

SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE

There is a non-physical ubiquitous energy that courses through the Universe.  For many thousands of years we have known of this energy and have sought to develop ways to harness its power to heal and influence our lives.

This energy is known by many different names in various cultures - the Japanese call it Ki . In China it is referred to as Chi or Qi, and in Indian philosophies it is known as prana.

Many successful disciplines such as Reiki, Tai Chi, Feng Shui, Meditation, Yoga, Acupuncture etc. have been developed to control and greatly enhance the flow of this energy in and around the body.

"If you want to find the secrets of the Universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration."

Secrets of the Universe
The Science of Energy

A WORLD OF ENERGY

THE SCIENCE
OF ENERGY

Science shows us that everything is made up of energy. It is the building block of all matter. The same energy that composes your body is the same one that composes the bricks of the house you live in, the car you drive , your phone, animals, trees and so forth. It is all the same.

It´s constantly in motion - flowing and changing all the time. It´s everywhere, and it can neither be created nor destroyed. Everything in this Universe is made up of the same stuff. It´s just present in different forms and shapes.

Even though we may not easily perceive this energy with our five senses, this life force energy exists, subtly woven within and throughout our physical world.

This energy can be described as being similar to radio waves - we can not see them but we know they are everywhere around us. When we turn on a radio and tune in, we can pick up a signal - similarly - the Universal energy is everywhere, although we often don't perceive it until we tune in.

While the Universal life force energy is largely immeasurable by modern scientific techniques, it can be seen with the use of kirlian photography and felt by many who tune in to it.

THE UNIVERSE IS LITERALLY ONE VAST OCEAN OF ENERGY

The Power of Intention

A WORLD OF ENERGY

The power of intention

We know that on a quantum level everything is vibrational energy. Our thoughts and feelings are also comprised of the same vibrating energy.

With our thoughts we are constantly interacting with the energy web of reality.

We are subconsciously attracting to ourselves people, circumstances, events and synchronicities that match the vibration of our thoughts and feelings.

The Universe is always responding to you according to your energy and vibration - and it is your thoughts, feelings and beliefs that create your energy and vibration.

Positive energy is free flowing and strong, while negative energy may bring imbalance and weakness - depending on the quality of ones thoughts and feelings.

Stressful and negative thoughts and feelings can often cause stagnation or a restriction in the flow of energy throughout the physical body and aura. If these imbalances are left untreated, it can often develop into illnesses.

The great value of Reiki is that it is guided by the higher intelligence - it knows exactly where to go and how to respond to restrictions in the flow of energy. It can work directly on the unconscious parts of the body and mind.

As Reiki flows through a unhealthy area, it begins to slowly dissolve any issues thus allowing a normal healthy flow of energy to resume.

Introduction to Energy

THE ENERGETIC BODY

INTRODUCTION
TO ENERGY

ENERGY ACTIVITY: Rub your hands together vigorously for thirty seconds. Next hold your hands out in front of you, shoulder width apart with the palms facing each other.

Now slowly bring your hands closer together until you begin to feel something tangible between your hands. You may feel something squashy like marshmallow, a balloon or a rubber ball. You may feel a surface, a layer, some resistance or even some magnetic repulsion... Some 'thing' that your hands are resting on and preventing them from touching each other.

You are feeling your energetic field which is always there. You have become aware of it simply by focusing your attention.

Now repeat the activity, but this time after rubbing for thirty seconds, face the palms of your hands towards a partners hands. Slowly move closer together until you feel the tangible resistance. See if you can agree between you the point where you can both feel the energy presence.

THE SUBTLE BODIES

We are all familiar with our physical bodies and their functions, but often less so with our bodies subtle energy systems. Seen from an energetic perspective each of us are made up of layers of vibrating energy.

As you move outwards from the physical body into the auric field, each subtle body vibrates at a slightly faster vibration than the one before it.

KOSHAS the fice sheaths.png

FEEL THE VIBE

Sensing energy is a natural quality that most people possess to a certain degree. Of course some people are more sensitive to energy than others -  these people are often referred to as empaths.

Have you ever had someone walk into the room and you've sensed a change in the atmosphere?

Emotions are a stunning expression of energy and the 'vibe' we give off. Emotion is literally 'energy in motion'. We register these vibrations with our intuition. Some people feel good to be around; they lift you up and improve your mood while others have the opposite effect .

These different types of people can be cheekily referred to as  radiators and drains.

RADIATORS are people who put the life into the saying 'smile and the world smiles with you.' Radiators are infectious to be around. They naturally make people feel good about themselves. They radiate their energy and enthusiasm like rays of sunshine.

DRAINS are those people in life who one way or another leave you feeling diminished after you've been with them. You know the feeling- you start off a conversation bright and positive and you come out of it dull, negative and frustrated. They're always on the look out for the clouds in the silver lining . The thing about drains is they don't even realise they do this. You would think this person would feel better after draining your energy, but they don't - they drain their own energy too.

This subtle energy is contagious and we will all know people who clearly fall into these categories.

Raising your Vibration

THE ENERGETIC BODY

Raising your
Vibration

It is important to look after your own energy.  Simply practicing anything that nurtures your soul  can help raise your vibration. Things such as:

SPEND TIME IN NATURE
Sitting in the grass or walking barefoot is a great way to feel more connected and absorb the healing energy of the Earth. This will also help to keep you grounded and bring more peace into your life. Even adding flowers or plants to your home will make a positive difference.

PRACTICE CREATIVE VISUALISATION
Clearing your mind from negative chatter is the first step to successful visualisation. Once your mind is clear, try visualising images that represent happiness or love. For example, you could visualise a flower opening or a blessing for each of your chakras.

BREATHE WITH INTENT
Breathing with intention is one of the easiest and most effective ways to naturally balance chakras and raise your energy vibration.

COLOUR THERAPY
Each chakras emits a different colour which represents a specific vibration. For example, if you’re working on balancing the heart chakra, you could wear green or burn a pink candle. Dark coloured socks area also good for grounding.

PRACTICE GRATITIDE
By now, you probably know that when you’re in a state of gratitude, you instantly raise your vibrational frequency. When you raise your vibration, you open your chakras and you start attracting more positive things in your life, like abundance, happiness, peace and loving relationships.

THINGS THAT CAN WEAKEN YOUR ENERGY

  • Poor diet

  • Drugs

  • Alcohol

  • Tobacco

  • Lack of rest

  • Lack of exercise

  • Stress

  • Negative energy

  • Over working

  • Poor breathing

Chakra Basics

THE ENERGETIC BODY

Chakra Basics

Chakras are energy centres located at various focal points within the subtle body. Early Sanskrit texts speak of them as meditative visualisations combining flowers and mantras as well as physical entities in the body.

There are seven main chakra centres that control the Universal life force. They are arranged vertically along the spinal axis from the base of the spine to the top of the head, nestled right through our center.

chakra_edited_edited.jpg

Chakras are often described as spinning wheels or disks. They are not static,  but continuously rotating as energy moves through in both upward and downward currents, with the chakras being the connection points.

Each chakra is responsible for supplying energy to specific parts of the body. It is said that when chakras are healthy, flowing with vitality they are 'open' but when energy in one or more chakra becomes blocked or stagnant, the flow of energy is diluted and weakened. This can lead to various symptoms.

Each chakra has a different frequency and velocity of vibration. Those located closer to the base of the spine operate at lower frequencies, and in turn govern deeper states of consciousness. Chakras located near the top of the spine, operate at higher frequencies and govern superior intelligence and subtler states of consciousness.

A full Reiki treatment will open the chakras and rebalance the flow of the Universal life force energy around the body .

Chakra guide.png
The Auric Field

THE ENERGETIC BODY

THE
AURIC FIELD

The aura is an energy field that surrounds all human beings. It is a manifestation of energy, a luminous body, surrounding our physical body from all sides, above and below.

The aura is directly connected to the energy vortices of the body, the seven chakras. The colors of aura may originate from the chakras and then blending in, creating a mass of energy around the body.

The energy body (or aura) has 5 main layers, each of them relating to the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual condition. These aura layers transmit information between the body (through the chakra system) and the immediate external environment. Each layer or level is an energy field varying in vibration.

FEELING AURA ACTIVITY: Have your partner lay down, place your hands over their body stretching up as far away from them as you can initially. Slowly move your hands closer to them .

You will begin to feel  the different layers of energy. Discuss how each of the layers feel.

Caring_edited.jpg

SEEING AURA ACTIVITY: Have your partner stand against the white wall, not touching it, just standing very close. Stand away from your partner so that you can see him/her from head to toe, including white space behind them.

Feel your feet firmly planted on the ground and connect with your breath. Close your eyes for a few seconds. Open your eyes and with a soft focus look at your partner in a way that encompasses their whole body. Gaze softly, passively noticing whatever arises.

There should be no striving to see anything, just allowing whatever arises in the moment.

You may begin to see the energy field around the head and upper body. This is the area of the body that is easiest to see.

At first, it will appear colorless, like a heat wave. With time, you will begin to see colors and you will no longer need a white background. Seeing auras takes time and dedicated practice. But, anyone can learn to detect the human energy field.

REIKI

THE HEALING GIFT

Throughout history, there have been those who have been known for their healing touch. This is something that is generally known little of and considered a gift, often being passed down from generation to generation. However I'd like to tell you that everyone possesses this gift!

Most people will use this gift regularly, although they may not realise it. For example if a child falls and hurts their knee - instinctively we will place our hand over the sore sport. The pain is usually relieved as we unconsciously work with the healing energy.

In the teaching of Reiki tradition, lineage is of the upmost importance, and ensures the knowledge is kept pure and true to the original teachings.

This particular form of  healing originated in Japan and is  widely used today. It is known as...

USUI SYSTEM OF REIKI HEALING

Divine Healing

The nature of this energy is unconditional love.  It is not attached to any religion, doctrine or belief system.

It is a powerful, yet gentle art of restoring and balancing energy to promote healing and wholeness of the mind, body and spirit.

The Healing Gift

REIKI

NATURAL HEALING

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing which channels the pure source of Divine Universal life force energy for the purposes of healing.

Simply put, Reiki holistically stimulates the body's natural healing abilities.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, so there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki.

The disruption of energy flow is often the main cause of illness

Reiki is neither positive nor negative, it is in fact the highest vibrational frequency of life. Divine in origin, Reiki is pure unconditional love and joy bringing all who experience and embrace its principles together in harmony.

Reiki energy holistically stimulates the persons own natural healing abilities, aiming to bring about harmonious balance of the mind, body and spirit.

The skills and techniques associated with Reiki are simple and easy for anyone to learn and utilise this ancient form of healing in their daily lives.

Reiki energy can not be destroyed. Even when we die and the life force energy leaves our body, it continues to exist as part of the Universe.

Reiki is ever present - this means anyone can channel its energy for healing, however without being attuned in sacred ceremony, you will only be using around 10-20% of its capacity for healing. When we are attuned to Reiki by a Reiki master we are able to harness this energy to heal ourselves and others much more efficiently.

The gift of healing remains with us for the rest of our lives . We can only lose it if we use it for negative or destructive purposes. Reiki is pure and it must be treated as such.

REIKI

UNIVERSAL
LIFEFORCE

Reiki energy has a supreme intelligence of its own - flowing precisely where it is needed in order to create the healing conditions necessary for the individual’s needs.

As health and vitality comes from the life energy that flows through and around us, it is important to ensure this stream of energy is flowing optimally. If this flow of this energy is blocked or disrupted somehow, this may cause dis-ease on some level.

The quality of your enery vibration determines the quality of your life

The human body is made up of over fifty trillion cells , each cell contains omniscient wisdom that is connected to the Universe and every living thing within it.

The Universal life force energy of Reiki is part of our genetic structure and inbuilt intelligence that energises the mind, body and spirit. Reiki stimulates growth, health, vitality and healing.

When energy flows freely, the mind, body and spirit are able to work in harmony and the biological intelligence that governs the body's natural healing resources is intensified .

Reiki is the key that unlocks the body's optimal healing capabilities.

THE BENEFITS OF
REIKI HEALING

The Reiki experience is very individual for both the practitioner and client. There are all kinds of encounters that people may experience during a Reiki session, depending on their unique spiritual connection and the healing taking place.

Some common experiences include...

  • Feeling light, heavy or weightless

  • Visions of images or colours

  • Loss of physical awareness

  • Feeling movement or flow of energy

  • Sensing others present in the room

  • Pressure in certain areas of the body

  • Forgotten memories may begin to surface

We all have our own individual spiritual connection, understanding and experience. Turn your attention inward and embrace your unique connection and know that there is no right or wrong way to connect. In time you will find your own way of working. You might also need to keep in mind that your ego may resist these moments of connection. You may even begin to question yourself and your experiences. Simply give thanks and trust in energetic connection.

Our body's carry old pain and traumas from the past and store it deep within the tissues on a cellular level. Holding this negativity can lead to  ‘dis-ease’ and potential illness.

You must never use Reiki  to as a diagnosis tool, however through positive intention, and the power of Reiki healing, we can begin to dissolve pockets of stored energy. Sometimes you may literally feel an opening of the chakras as the energy becomes ‘unstuck’ and begins to flow. As we open ourselves to connecting to the Universal life force energy you will begin to reap the benefits in all aspects of your life.

BENEFITS OF REIKI INCLUDE:

Reiki Treatment
  • Deep Relaxation

  • Dissolves energy blockages

  • Detoxifies the body

  • Supplies healing

  • Increases the vibrational frequency

REIKI PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES

The Founder of
USUI Reiki

The Divine energy has been around forever. Many believe this form of energy healing was practiced in India and Tibet, hundreds, if not thousands of years ago. However since many teachings were passed orally from generation to generation, the original name and techniques were sadly lost. The rediscovery of the ancient healing arts began with the founder of Usui Reiki  - Doctor Mikao Usui.

Born to a wealthy Buddhist family in 1865. Dr Usui’s family were able to give their son a good well-rounded education for the time.

Dr Usui studied in a Buddhist monastery where he was taught martial arts, swordsmanship, and the Japanese form of Chi Kung, known as Kiko.

Throughout his education, Dr Usui had an interest in medicine, psychology and theology. After years of scholarship studying sacred scriptures and researching ancient cultures, he found documented evidence of channelling the Universal life force energy which prompted him to seek a method of healing  using the laying of hands.

As a teacher, he was challenged by his students about his unwavering faith in the reality of the Universal healing force. It became his personal quest to be able to source this healing power as a help to mankind.

Dr Usui traveled a great deal during his lifetime. He studied healing systems of all types and held different professions including reporter, secretary, missionary, public servant and guard. Finally he became a Buddhist priest and lived in a monastery in Kyoto, Japan where he discovered a formula for contacting a higher power for healing in the Indian Sutras.

DR USUI
SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

Dr Usui.png

Initially Dr Usui didn't know what to do with this knowledge. Some time during his years of training in the monastery, Dr Usui travelled to a cave on Mount Kurama for a solitary practice.

As he walked up the mountain he gathered twenty one stones and upon reaching his destination, he placed them in a pile beside him. For twenty one days Dr Usui fasted, meditated and prayed. Each morning at sunrise he would throw away one stone. After twenty days nothing had happened.

On the morning of the twenty-first day, Dr Usui experienced a spiritual awakening that would change his life forever. He was gifted with the vision of ancient Sanskrit symbols that helped him develop the system of healing he had been struggling to formulate. The Usui system of Reiki was born.

After his spiritual awakening on Mount Kurama, Dr Usui established a clinic for healing and teaching in Kyoto.

As the clinic of Usui Reiki increased in popularity, Dr Usui became well known for his healing practice.

Mountain

THE FOUR
MIRACLES

Legend attributes the following 'four miracles' to Dr Usui's story:

THE FIRST MIRACLE
Full of energy and excited about returning back to Kyoto, Dr Usui ran down the mountainside. As he did so he stubbed his toe - it was painful and bleeding. Instinctively, he held his foot - immediately his toe stopped bleeding and all pain ceased.

THE SECOND MIRACLE
When he reached the bottom of the mountain, he came to a roadside stall selling food. He sat at a table and ordered a meal. Seeing Dr Usui's long beard and ragged robes the stallholder knew he must of been fasting and was reluctant to serve him anything but rice and gruel, however Dr Usui insisted. The stallholders daughter who had a painful toothache brought the meal. He asked permission to touch her cheek and immediately the swelling went down and her pain disappeared.

THE THIRD MIRACLE
Usui ate his meal without any ill effects.

THE FOURTH MIRACLE
When Dr Usui reached the monastery he was told that his friend the abbot had taken ill and was in bed with great pain due to arthritis. Dr Usui gave the abbot a demonstration of his newfound skill and relieved the abbot of his pain.

Founder & History of Reiki

REIKI PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES

REIKI VALUE

Once his healing clinic was established, Dr Usui decided to visit the vast slums of Kyoto to share his gift and help heal the sick. He spent many years doing this work, helping men and women to become well and able to seek work.

After a few years he began to notice some familiar faces returning to him for healing. On questioning them he came to realise that although he cured them of their illnesses physically, there must be more to healing. He established the need for a level of spiritual development and responsibility on the recipients part.

REIKI HEALING MUST BE RECEIVED WITH A GRATEFUL HEART

Dr Usui realised that giving away Reiki freely developed no gratitude or responsibility on the recipients part.  He determined never again to give Reiki to anyone who did not appreciate it.

For that reason, there must be some form of exchange when providing Reiki treatments. This may be in the form of a small gift, or something as simple as a hug or a smile.

Remember you can not charge for Reiki treatments until you are a qualified practitioner having completed Reiki level 2.

SPIRITUAL
LINEAGE

Dr Mikao Usui founded his first Reiki clinic and school in Kyoto in 1922. Before he died, Dr. Usui taught several Reiki masters to ensure that his healing system would not be forgotten.

Among them was Dr Chujiro Hayashi, a former naval officer who set up a Reiki clinic in Tokyo.

Dr Hayashi is credited with further developing the Usui system of Reiki by adding hand positions to more thoroughly cover the body. He also refined the attunement process.

Using his improved system, Dr Hayashi trained several more Reiki masters, including a woman named Hawayo Takata.

Mrs Takata was a Japanese - American woman who was in Tokyo in 1935. Mrs Takata was very ill and in need of surgery, but she strongly felt through her instinct that she did not need surgery to be healed.

After asking her doctor about alternative treatments for her condition, she was told about the Reiki practitioner in town. Mrs Takata had never heard of Reiki, but she made an appointment, even though she was a little sceptical.

Following her initial meeting with Dr Hayashi, Mrs Takata attended for daily Reiki treatments. She found the sessions to be relaxing, pleasant and ultimately - healing.

As time passed, Mrs Takata was attuned to Reiki practitioner level by Dr Hayashi. Upon learning the Reiki healing system herself, Mrs Takata took the knowledge home to the United States where she  helped heal many others and eventually became a Reiki master. Much of this happened around the beginning of World War II.

Before he died, Dr Hayashi managed to impart all of Dr Usui’s original teachings onto Mrs Takata. She continued to practice Reiki for many years.

When she died, Mrs Takata had attuned 22 Reiki masters .

REIKI PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES

the five
reiki principles

These five Reiki principles are guidelines for all Reiki practitioners to live by on a daily basis.

As well as promoting a healthy, loving way of living, they also allow us to fully embody Reiki energy.

JUST FOR TODAY...

I will not worry

I will not anger

I will be grateful

I will do my work honestly

I will be kind to all living things

Sunflower Field

Choose one Reiki Principle to focus on each day.

JUST FOR TODAY I SHALL NOT WORRY

For some of us, stress can be a major issue in our daily lives. If just for one day we could try to stop worrying so much, we could all live more peacefully - which in turn, will also bring peace to others. Not to mention, lowering stress levels is also extremely beneficial to your health! So just for today trust in Spirit, Source, God (or yourself!) and know that everything is going to work out just fine. It always does!

JUST FOR TODAY I WILL NOT ANGER

If a typical morning for you involves being cut up by another driver on your way to work, you probably default to anger. Why not just take a deep breath, relax, forgive and let it go. What will you achieve by remaining angry and cutting him off to 'get back at him?' Nothing. All that you'll end up with is an elevated heart rate (and more stress!) which is certainly not good for your wellbeing.

JUST FOR TODAY I WILL BE GRATEFUL

Typically we are always asking for more and only seeing what we don't have. Let's try for one day to be grateful for what we do have - a job, a car that takes you where you need to go, a roof over your head, good health and a family that loves you unconditionally and supports you. When we are grateful for what we have, we will attract more of it. The law of attraction states that like attracts like and lack attracts lack, so stay positive and be grateful for what you have.

JUST FOR TODAY I WILL DO MY WORK HONESTLY

Doing your work honestly brings more purpose and meaning into your life. When you do your work honestly and with purpose, you'll feel good about yourself and more fulfilled about your work.

JUST FOR TODAY I WILL BE KIND TO ALL LIVING THINGS

What you give out, you receive back ten-fold. Be nice, be loving and caring to everyone, even if it's not your favorite person in the world. We all deserve love and kindness. At the end of the day we will feel better about ourselves for bringing some light and love into someone else's day, even if it's just for a moment.

The
Gassho Meditation

Many say Doctor Usui practiced Gassho meditation as a part of his personal Reiki regimen every day, twice a day for twenty one days - after which he received his spiritual awakening and was gifted with the sacred  knowledge of Reiki healing.

Our program is also twenty one days, it would be extremely beneficial for you to actively meditate during this training period using the Gassho Meditation.

This meditation is simple and takes between 5-15 minutes each day. Once you are comfortable in your usual meditation position, ensure your spine is straight and upright - preferably unsupported.

Take a moment to centre yourself - gently closing the eyes, letting go of any tension, releasing any worries, allow your physical body to relax and your mind to settle.

Bring the hands to prayer position at the centre of your chest in front of the heart chakra, the thumbs lightly in contact with the sternum. The focus is on the middle fingers.

Gassho translates to:

Two hands coming together

Mentally or verbally repeat the five Reiki Principles.

JUST FOR TODAY...

I will not worry

I will not anger

I will be grateful

I will do my work honestly

I will be kind to all living things

Meditation

Visualise breathing in Reiki energy through your nose. As you exhale, see this energy flowing through your whole being; physical body, spiritual body, mental body and energetic body.

Feel it flow out and surround you. As you continue to breathe, feel it begin to fill the room, then your home (or wherever you are), filling it with Reiki energy.

Feel the energy grow stronger as it flows outside your home and into the neighborhood.

See it filling the region in which you reside and then beyond into the country, then the whole globe and finally out into the cosmos.

As the energy flows, see the flowers bloom, hear the birds sing, feel the kiss of a gentle breeze.

See the power of Universal love carried in the arms of Reiki energy touch and caress everything, everyone, and everywhere.

See all illness, all disease, all abuse, and all pain, as a dark cloud, - dissolving and evaporating  right in front  of you - until all that is left is love and light.

You will find continuing to use this meditation daily after the initial twenty one day period to be very beneficial and enjoyable.

Sacred
REIKI SYMBOl

THE POWER SYMBOL

Cho-Ku-Rei_(Reiki_Symbol).svg.png

CHO KU REI

The Reiki symbols are sacred and must be respected as such. They should not be shared with your clients or anyone else outside of the Reiki healing circle.

While the Cho Ku Rei symbol may vary, it will look somewhat like a coil. You will use the symbol as given to you by your Reiki master.

Reiki makes use of the ancient symbols which were gifted to Dr Usui in visions during his spiritual awakening. Cho Ku Rei loosely translated to:

PLACING THE POWER OF THE UNIVERSE HERE

Cho Ku Rei is the power symbol. It is used to enhance Reiki treatments by aiding the channelling of Reiki energy and boosting the power of healing. It can protect from negative energy and is seen as somewhat as a portal for Reiki treatments. It can also be used to boost the power of other symbols you will learn further along your Reiki journey.

The power symbol is most effective when used at the beginning of the treatment to open the channel of Reiki energy, and also at the end of the treatment to close off the channel, sealing in the healing that has taken place. Using the symbol on a particular part of the body or over a particular chakra can also help focus the healing energy to that area.

It can also be used to cleanse spaces. A place can be spiritually cleansed with the use of this symbol by visualising or drawing the symbol in the centre and corners of the room as well as windows and doorways. The symbol will hold the intent given to it by the practitioner.

Using the power symbol over food and drink can also have the same effect, removing any negative vibrations before consuming.

when to use it

  • At the beginning of the treatment to initiate the healing channel.

  • During the treatment to focus healing at a particular chakra or body part.

  • At the end of the treatment to close off the channel and seal in healing.

  • To cleanse spaces, places, people and objects.

  • To bless food and drink before consumption.

meditation

Integrating the sacred reiki symbol(s) is a vital practice as part of your Reiki journey. You are invited to meditate regularly on the power symbol Cho Ku Rei. One of the most effective ways to do this is with the use of mantra and visualisation.

The power of mantra  is not limited by time or space, but rather is self-existent. Mantra transcends sound. Scriptures say that mantra is seen by the eyes of the soul rather than heard by the ears.

Visualisation and chanting activates the spiritual power of the Reiki symbol(s). By repeating , it vibrates both internally and externally into the realm of pure consciousness.

Find a comfortable seated position, ensure your spine is straight and close your eyes .

Inhale deeply and exhale fully ten full body breaths counting down from ten to one. Become aware of the natural rhythms of your body and enjoy the moment.

Visualise the Reiki symbol in front of you. If you wish, you can draw or print the symbol(s) and have it displayed in front of you, then you may focus on it with your eyes open.

Begin to chant the symbols name as a mantra. Do this slowly. As you chant remain focused on the image of the symbol. Chant the mantra in groups of three. Continue to chant as long as you wish. When you’re done, open your eyes, give thanks and move on with your daily tasks.

Practice the mantra meditation as often as you like. A good time to do this is before you go to sleep at night.

Sacred Reiki Symbol

Preparing the
Sacred Space

Preparation is key for any Reiki session, whether it be self healing or you’re treating a family member or client.

Bare in mind that 'space' is multidimensional. Reiki is a body, mind, spirit modality, so take care to prepare all three. None of it needs to take very long, but the few minutes you spend preparing can help you maximize the Reiki experience.

Things to consider include...

physical space: declutter & beautify

When it comes to the tangible aspect of your sacred space, it’s important to make sure that it’s clean and visually pleasing. You may like to bring things into the space that relax you, make you smile, or represent the energy you want to create- plants, candles, crystals, artwork, etc.  Bringing your sense of smell into the mix by burning oils or incense is also a good idea. Don’t forget that your physical space doesn’t just mean the room, it also refers to your actual body.

mental space: limit distractions

Your mental space is just as important to prepare before your Reiki session. Ensure you schedule your sessions when you can be free of outside distractions. Ensure you turn off phones and other electronic appliances. Taking some time for quiet meditation before delivering a Reiki healing session will really make all the difference in opening your spiritual channels and allowing the healing Universal energy to flow effortlessly.

SPIRITUAL space: CLEANSE AND invoke

Reiki is Universal 'spiritual' energy, so attending to this aspect of your space is a must. Start by blessing and cleansing your space with a brief ritual using your reiki symbol(s) in the centre of the room, corners of the room and at any doorways or windows. You may also like to include a prayer and you may wish to smudge yourself, your client and your space with white sage. Alternative ways of cleaning would be to use essential oils, sound or crystals. I encourage you to find a cleansing ritual that feels right for you. You may also wish to invoke spiritual assistance.

Treatment Room

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER:

COMFORT

It is important that your client is comfortable and relaxed through the session. They may wish to remove tight clothing such as belts, ties and shoes. There is no need to remove any other forms of clothing.

To further enhance the experience consider having your client lay down so that they can fully let go and be open to receive. If for any reason this is not suitable, having your client seated on a comfortable chair is also a good option. It may be helpful to use pillows to further support the head, feet and knees.

TEMPERATURE

It is important to ensure the room is a comfortable temperature for both you and your client.  Body temperature can often drop significantly during states of deep relaxation. You may wish to have extra blankets at hand.

JEWELRY

To enable you to work with Reiki free from all subtle energy disturbances, it is advisable to remove all jewelry prior to a reiki treatment.

MUSIC

Some people like to work in total silence while others prefer gentle soothing music. Here are links to two free Reiki music videos on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fJy_j0h8oU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Leob7Fv1ibM

HYGIENE

It goes without saying that personal hygiene is essential when providing treatments to others.  Avoid wearing strong perfumes or after shaves. If you smoke make sure you brush your teeth or use a mouth freshener. Refrain from eating garlic, onions or any other food that may leave a smell on your breath. Always wash your hands before and after a Reiki session using a lightly scented or neutral soap. It is good practice to also apply a hand sanitiser before commencing the treatment.

ALCOHOL

Alcohol dissipates energy. Always refrain from consuming alcohol if you know you are going to be working with Reiki for at least twenty-four hours before a session. Never treat someone who

is under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

Preparing the Sacred Space

reiki foundations

Grounding and Protection

Grounding and protecting are essential when working with spiritual energy, particularly before providing a Reiki treatment. It helps to separate other energies from your own.

Establish a regular practice of the following grounding visualisations to protect yourself from foreign energies. By grounding yourself, you are restoring your connection to the Earth and bringing yourself a few moments of quiet to focus and centre yourself. It also helps to keep you in the present moment.

PROTECTION VISUALISATION

Visualise a clear ball (or bubble) of pure white light. As you concentrate on this light, notice it getting bigger and brighter with every breath.

As you focus your awareness on the light it begins to slowly move, surrounding your body until you are completely encased by the shielding light as it embraces you with the most wonderful sense of calmness, love and protection.

The light continues to grow and expand . You realise it surrounds you and reaches out on all sides of your body, protecting your aura as well. While you do this, state your personal intention for protection. Something like...

'I am surrounded by the divine white light of love and protection that will keep me safe from any and all harm and keep energies at bay that do not serve my highest good or purpose.'

GROUNDING MEDITATION

Sit or stand upright, with your feet firmly on the floor. Take a few deep breaths, then imagine tree roots

extending from your sacrum (or base of your spine) down your body and out through your feet and into the ground.

With each exhale, imagine the roots travelling deeper, through the soil, through the bedrock, and eventually to the very core of the Earth.

Once the roots have reached the core of the Earth, breathe deeply and feel yourself fully supported and held by the Earth. As you inhale, follow the roots back up through the Earth, into the soles of your feet and back to your sacrum. You are now grounded!

Practice doing this often, especially before Reiki treatments and if possible, work barefoot. Another great grounding technique is to swim in the sea or walk barefoot outdoors, with your feet touching the Earth.

REMEMBER, intent is what makes this work. You have to BELIEVE that what you're visualising is happening, and that what you're saying, your intent is binding this action to be true.

Invocation and Intention

If delivering a treatment for a client, ensure they are  lying down and settled ready to receive Reiki, move to the top the table towards the clients head.

Close your eyes and join your hands together in prayer position in front of your heart chakra. Alternatively, if your client is seated, place your hands on their shoulders for the invocation.

You invocation can be as simple or as lengthy as you like. Some example invocations are set our below to help you create your own.

examples:

  • I call upon Reiki – the Universal life force, all the angelic beings who have worked with Reiki in the past especially Dr. Usui, Dr. Hayashi, Madam Takata, my guides and all the Reiki Masters past, present and future to draw near and take part in this healing session. I ask that the power and wisdom of Reiki permits me to become a channel for Reiki’s unconditional love and healing on behalf of (insert clients name) may Reiki’s infinite wisdom go exactly where it is needed most, should it be for their higher good. May we all be empowered by your divine love and blessings.

  • Creator, Infinite Spirit, Mother Father Divine. We are here before you as instruments of peace and healing and we offer ourselves as servants of the light. We call upon only the highest and most sacred spiritual energies to be with us, to guide us, to share love, healing and wisdom with us; we send them our love; and we welcome them. We raise ourselves up to receive healing for our highest good and the highest good of all concerned. We offer ourselves as clear and open channels for the highest forms of the healing rays to flow through. We give thanks that our personalities, egos and expectations stand aside, so the healing energies will flow in their clearest and truest form. We give thanks for the blessings of this healing and we know that through your love, it is done. And so it is.

Holding Hands

It is recommended that you always take a few moments before you begin a treatment to mentally prepare for working as a channel for Reiki. This quiet time is perfect for getting in touch with guides, mentors and assistants.

It allows us a brief moment of reflection and focuses our thoughts and set the intention for healing. It is important to begin the treatment with the right mental attitude. Your wish should be to pass on unconditional love and healing in the purest form and sense.

An invocation is a specific style of prayer offered at the beginning of a Reiki session to direct and guide the process. It sets the intention for healing and invokes or invites spiritual allies.

Although the invocation is not necessary to channel Reiki energy, it enables the therapist to disassociate themselves from their ego and pay respect to the Universal life force and the person they are about to work with.

It is important to remember that as a Reiki channeler you are not healing your clients. The people receiving Reiki are in fact healing themselves. You are merely the channel that enables them to draw the Reiki energy through your hands to the place it is needed. The invocation is a token that symbolises you are giving up any claims to power. You are simply the conduit in which the infinite power of the universal life force flows.

It is important that you adopt your own invocation that feels right for you. Your prayer should be personal and in line with your own beliefs. You will find this tends to naturally develops and your words may change each treatment according to the intention. Within your invocation you may wish to:

  • Welcome your Divine self and align with God consciousness. 'I stand here and remember that I too am a being of pure light, love and joy, truth and beauty, grace and gratitude.'

  • Welcome the Reiki guides and the beings of light and love. If you do not know them by name, ask for enlightened spiritual helpers, compassionate teachers, ascended masters or beings of light and love. Or, ask for them by category, such as angels, power animals, spiritual teachers and guides, compassionate ancestors and descendants. You may like to include them by name, Jesus and Mother Mary, the Archangel Michael, etc.

Invocation & Intention

reiki foundations

channelling
reiki

To begin any Reiki practice, you must first activate the energy within yourself. After performing your grounding, and protection rituals, close your eyes and take a few rounds of deep breaths. Imagine the crown of your head opening and a stream of healing white light flowing from the top of your head, into your heart, and out through your arms and hands. Ask for healing to be directed where it is needed most. Remember you are a channel for the healing energy and it first flows through you as you direct it to your client. You will receive the healing benefits too.

As you feel the flow of energy, continue to breathe and if you find your mind gets busy or starts to question whether this is working, come back to your breath. Envision yourself as a vessel for healing. You are now ready to complete your invocation rituals.

Before commencing the hand placements, slowly run your hands in your clients aura about six inches above their body from their head right down to their feet in a slow smooth motion. Repeat this at least three times to remove any energy build up. This will also bring harmony to your client’s aura and form a positive rapport between you and your client.

Pay attention to your hands, use your intuition, sense for possible blockages or hot spots to focus on during your healing session. You are now ready to begin the treatment.

It’s important to remember that some adults, over time, have forgotten how to feel (or have become less aware of) their energetic and physical body. That’s okay. Just know that they might say that they can’t feel the energy moving. It might be subtle, but it doesn’t mean that the Reiki isn't working effectively.

Sealing & Disconnecting

It’s important to offer gratitude, cleanse yourself, and close the energy once you’ve completed a healing session.

SEALING

Upon completion of the treatment, use the power symbol to seal the healing that has taken place. Trace the the symbol over the clients body.

BRUSHING OFF

To end a Reiki treatment, comb  through the recipient's aura with your hands from head to toe. This will clear away any energetic debris that has lifted from the physical body during the treatment. Repeat this three times circling around the heart space.

DRY BATHING

Step back and place the left hand on the right shoulder stroke down the chest and across the stomach to the left hip. Repeat on the other side. Next stroke down the arm shoulder to finger tips. Finally brush your hands briskly against each other and visualise dusting off any residual energy from the treatment.

GIVE THANKS

Give thanks for the healing that has taken place. It is also beneficial to make a silent request that any negative or stagnant energies be transformed into positive energies and returned to the Universe at this point

RAKU

The Reiki Raku symbol, also known as the 'fire serpent,' is primarily used to seal in the healing energies by closing the chakras and grounding the client.

It is drawn downwards from the head of the recipient to the ground, allowing the energy received during this process to remain inside the 7 chakras.

The completion symbol also plays an important part in separating the energies of the Reiki practitioner and client. Also draw the symbol in the air between yourself and your client.

You may also like to spend some time meditating on this symbol .

THE REIKI TREATMENT

Consultation, contraindications
& Contractions

CONSULTATION
Your level 1 Reiki course focuses predominantly on self healing, however you are also encouraged to provide treatments to friends and family in a non-professional context. Although consultations are not an official process required at this level, for good practice we suggest you complete a verbal and written consultation for all treatments you offer. An example consultation form has been included in the download section.

Reiki is safe and gentle and will never do any harm. However, there are several scenarios where you may want to take precautions before providing reiki treatments.

While there is no direct evidence of contraindications to reiki therapy, it has been suggested that under certain circumstances the restoration of the energy balance within the body can have some adverse effects as the natural healing process takes places.

PACEMAKERS

Clients with pacemakers should avoid reiki treatments. Reiki therapy will help the body to stabilize and regulate its functions. While reiki is not an electrical current, it may cause disruption in the pacemakers timing. This is because the internal blockages that are cleared with reiki, may help the heart to regulate itself.

CHEMOTHERAPY/ RADIOTHERAPY

When receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy the client should avoid reiki healing. As reiki will help to lessen the side effects of chemotherapy

it will also help the body to eliminate toxins. However, some of those toxins are part of the cancer treatment itself, and removing them could impact the effectiveness of the cancer treatment.

ANESTHESIA

Clients under anesthetic should not receive reiki healing at a distance. During surgery the client may receive a cocktail of drugs that may render the client unconscious and make the procedure painless. However, reiki seeks to restore balance allowing the body to remove impurities like anesthetic drugs. This would put the client at risk of waking during the procedure.

BROKEN BONES

When bones are broken, a client should not receive reiki treatment until the bone is set. When giving a reiki treatment, the body's natural healing energies are moved back into balance. This could cause the broken bone to begin healing quickly before the bone has been set properly.

AMPUTEE

A client who has lost a limb or finger should not be treated with reiki before the severed body part is reattached. Again, reiki will quicken the healing process by clearing energy blockages. This in turn may accelerate the bodies natural healing ability before the attachment and this might cause complications.

INSULIN

Clients who are injecting insulin for diabetes should use caution when getting reiki treatments. The energy balancing that accompanies reiki therapy can impact the blood glucose levels. They should measure their levels after any reiki session and report any significant change to their doctor.

ALCHOL & RECRIATIONAL DRUGS

Never treat anyone under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

Please remember that Reiki is not a replacement for conventional medical care, but rather a complimentary tool. When used sensibly, Reiki can be a valuable resource in helping improve overall health and wellness.

THE REIKI TREATMENT

TREATING
CHILDREN & ANIMALS

REIKI FOR CHILDREN
When working with children, depending on their age, it can also help to share with them what you are doing and why. Children are often incredibly perceptive to energy work and tend to be very open to alternative practices. Of course children will usually require a much shorter Reiki session than adults.

Some parents will also show children how to receive energy and channel Reiki themselves so that they begin to access the beautiful portal of natural healing at an early age.

Happy%20Children_edited.jpg

REIKI FOR ANIMALS

This Reiki technique can also be used to treat household pets. Like children, animals are often very sensitive to energy and require a much shorter Reiki session than adults.

Some pets require a little time to get used to receiving, whereas other pets won’t leave you alone from the very first time they sense the Reiki energy. Whatever the situation may be, introduce your pet to Reiki very gradually.

ASSESSMENT

Preparing for
YOUR Sacred Attunement
Ceremony

Once you have completed the theory based modules, you will then be ready to receive your Reiki Attunement. This is  a ceremonial activation of the Universal energy within you which clears the energetic pathways in the body, allowing Reiki energies to flow.

Following certain steps will help you get the most from your attunement. A period of purification is suggested one week prior to your Reiki initiation. If this is not possible – we recommend at least one day before, and after your attunement.

You may like to consider the following...

  • Increase your fluid intake - plenty of plain water

  • Avoid or reduce drinking alcohol and coffee

  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet avoiding meat and fish if possible

  • Ensure you are well rested

  • Avoid or reduce smoking

  • Limit outside stimulation (TV, radio, computers, newspapers)

Scented Candles

It is possible to be attuned to Reiki without any preparation at all, however preparing the mind and body will enhance your experience.

Your Reiki Attunement will initiate a subtle cleansing process which affects the physical body as well as the mind and emotions. You may notice subtle or profound changes after your attunement. Stored toxins may be released, as well as feelings and old thought patterns. This is often a gentle process and takes around 21 days  to fully integrate.

I will look forward to seeing you for your Reiki attunement soon.
