Mantra Meditation: Kirtan   

Mantra Meditation is a sacred and beautiful practice. In understanding how mantra works, it can be helpful to look at the translation of the sanskrit word. The word mantra can be broken down into two parts: ‘man,’ which means mind, and ‘tra,’ which means transport or vehicle.  Kirtan is a musical conversation- singing through mantra. 

The word ‘kirtan’ also stems from a sanskrit root that means ‘to cut through,’ so kirtan is also ‘a practice for cutting through the idea of separation, for connecting to our hearts and connecting to the moment through sound.  

In kirtan, we will come together in community using sacred sanskrit mantras to connect with the divine in the many forms in which it manifests. Each chant revolves around a particular mantra which can be defined as a sacred sound formula that has a specific focus and energy.  

Mantra is the bridge that directs the healing power of Prana (life force energy) and allows us to access spiritual states of consciousness.   

The sacred sounds of mantra are presented in the form of syllables, words, prayers, phrases, or hymns. We will chant various sanskrit mantras as an object of concentration and embodiment of various aspects of spiritual power.  

Mantras is a spiritual practice which allows for connection to the divine and expansion of the heart. When spoken, chanted or mentally vibrated, sacred mantras are energetic sound formulas which opens us up to sound on another level and has an enigmatic transformative power. It is an ancient key for unlocking the mysteries of the entire universe.   

Mantra is sacred, mantra is powerful, mantra is healing, mantra is divine, mantra is connection, mantra is medicine.   

The session will include gentle yogic warm up movements, pranayama and mantra medicine. We will end with savasana relaxation.   

Please ensure you prepare a comfortable space, you may like to have to hand a glass of water, your journal, yoga mat, blanket and pillows for your comfort.     

This session is currently being offered on a donation basis. We have suggested three tiers:

Suggested donation: £5     Full Concession  - (No Income)
